French Language Education
Welland history has been written in Canada’s two official languages from early days. The town has the highest French population (12%) in Southern Ontario and over 51% of Welland’s total population speaks both English and French. Welland has 4 French elementary schools, a French daycare and a French high school. As well there are French Immersion programs in a number of Welland and Port Colborne elementary schools.
Niagara College
Niagara’s only regional college, the bilingual Niagara College of Applied Arts & Technology has three campuses; in Welland, Niagara-On-The-Lake and Saudi Arabia. The college has 9,000 full-time and 15,000 continuing education students. A major expansion program has been completed bringing new student facilities and services, a 15,000 s.f. expansion to the Rankin Technology Centre and $40 million Applied Health institute.
